C.G. Brown Memorial Pool being demolished to make way for new destination recreation facility

Last updated: April 12, 2023

The City of Burnaby is demolishing the C.G. Brown Memorial Pool starting April 6, 2023 to make room for the new Burnaby Lake Aquatic and Arena Facility, an exciting destination recreation centre to serve our entire community. Demolition will take place over six weeks and is anticipated to be complete by May 31, 2023. Regular timelapse updates of the demolition will be available on the project web page

C.G. Brown Memorial Pool and Burnaby Lake Arena will be replaced with the Burnaby Lake Aquatic and Arena Facility that will include an accessible (zero barrier) 50-metre Olympic-sized pool with recreational diving facilities and features to support a range of programs as well as a 25m pool, leisure pool and family-sized hot pool.

Burnaby Lake Arena will remain open until construction of the exciting new Rosemary Brown Arena is complete. Once Rosemary Brown Arena is open to the public later this year, Burnaby Lake Arena will be permanently closed and demolished.

The new facility will be built on the existing site to meet the community’s future needs and will be integrated with the existing Bill Copeland Sports Centre to form part of the overall campus of sports facilities and fields within the Burnaby Lake Sports Complex area. The Burnaby Lake Aquatic and Arena Facility is anticipated to open by the end of 2026.
