Burnaby Invites Applicants for Chinese Canadian Reconciliation Advisory Group

Last updated: June 16, 2023

Burnaby is searching for volunteers to join the City’s new Chinese Canadian Reconciliation Advisory Group. The group’s guidance will help the City to recognize what actions of reconciliation are needed to address past harms for discrimination against people of Chinese descent. The reconciliation journey will include acknowledgment of historical discrimination and a formal apology.

The City is looking for up to four community members to join the Advisory Group. We welcome all Burnaby Chinese Canadian community members to apply, including historic families, educators and representatives of community organizations. We value the diversity within the community and encourage participation from recent and established immigrants, people from different professional backgrounds and those who represent the diverse languages, heritage and generations that form the unique Chinese Canadian community settled in Burnaby.

The Advisory Group will meet up to a maximum of 4 times a year between June 2023 and July 2025. The deadline for applications is June 30, 2023.

Apply today and learn more by visiting the Reconciliation with the Chinese Canadian Community page.

Please submit questions about the application or reconciliation process to [email protected].
