City of Burnaby invites youth to help plan the City’s future

Last updated: October 24, 2023

The City is seeking submissions from Burnaby youth (grades 9 to 12) to participate in the Youth Advisory Council for Burnaby’s Official Community Plan (OCP).

The Youth Advisory Council will explore community planning from a youth perspective to ensure this important plan reflects youth priorities, values and aspirations for the future.

Through a series of three workshops between November 2023 and May 2024, the City will work with youth who are passionate about building their community. Youth will help to shape Burnaby’s future, learn about city planning and meet great people.

The OCP project, Burnaby 2050, is a multi-year process that involves engaging community members in dialogue about the future of Burnaby. The Youth Advisory Council is one of many engagement opportunities hosted by the City in the development of the OCP. Upon completion of the program, the Youth Advisory Council members will be eligible for a recommendation letter from the City and an honorarium for participation.

The application deadline for the Youth Advisory Council is November 3, 2023. Interested Burnaby youth can find more details and fill out an online application form by visiting: burnaby.ca/burnaby2050

About the City’s Official Community Plan

The City’s Official Community Plan will guide and manage Burnaby’s growth over the next 25 years in a way that reflects our community’s aspirations and values. The renewed OCP will be contemporary and considerate of emerging trends, issues, challenges and opportunities—particularly in areas of housing affordability, climate change and resilience. It will set out the priorities, goals and policies for the City to work towards in the short, medium and long term.
