Resident input sought into Burnaby’s first Urban Forest Management Strategy

Last updated: February 22, 2024

The City of Burnaby is seeking input from residents to help guide the future of Burnaby’s urban forest, which includes all the trees and green spaces through the city, on both public and private land.

We are developing an Urban Forest Management Strategy—a roadmap for creating a diverse, resilient and healthy urban forest by protecting, preserving, restoring and expanding tree cover throughout Burnaby. It will outline a clear, long-term, sustainable approach to achieving Metro Vancouver’s goal of 40% canopy cover (the portion of the city covered by trees when viewed from the air). Burnaby’s canopy cover as of 2022 is 32%.

Take part in our survey or attend an open house!

Burnaby residents are invited to complete a brief survey at Burnaby.ca/UrbanForest. The survey closes on April 7, 2024.

Residents can also share their input at an open house. Drop-ins are welcome, but guests are asked to RSVP to [email protected] with the open house date and number attending for planning purposes.
