Burnaby celebrates the grand opening of Fire Station 8

Last updated: May 7, 2025
We recently welcomed over 1,000 community members in the grand opening of Fire Station 8, a milestone for Burnaby Mountain.
We were honoured to welcome Squamish Nation Knowledge Keeper Willie, City of Burnaby Mayor Mike Hurley, SFU President Joy Johnson, and Fire Chief Miles Ritchie, who shared special remarks.
Community members explored the state-of-the-art facility, met with dedicated firefighters, and enjoyed family games, face painting, food and drinks.
Fire Station 8 is a beacon of innovation and sustainability, equipped with special firefighting tools for its forest setting, and built using energy-efficient practices. Its strategic location on Burnaby Mountain significantly enhances emergency response times, ensuring timely assistance to nearby neighborhoods.
We extend a heartfelt thank you to everyone who joined us to celebrate this exciting milestone. Fire Station 8 represents our commitment to safety, sustainability, and community service, and we look forward to continuing our mission of protecting and serving Burnaby.
