The City of Burnaby has completed the BC Parkway Illumination Project, transforming the BC Parkway between Patterson Station and Edmonds Station into one of the City’s iconic spaces with vibrant new lighting for pedestrians and cyclists.
The project includes the installation of safety-focused lighting designed to improve visibility and comfort during evening hours along the five-kilometre stretch. In addition to these practical improvements, the route now features dynamic accent lighting on 178 SkyTrain guideway pillars, capable of shifting between brilliant colours to celebrate seasonal themes and special occasions—adding a striking visual element to Burnaby’s urban landscape.
“The BC Parkway Illumination Project is about building connections in Burnaby by providing a safe and enjoyable way to travel between neighbourhoods,” said Mayor Mike Hurley. “This gives people one more reason to get out and explore our incredible city.”
The BC Parkway Illumination Project was completed in phases, beginning with the Willingdon Avenue to Metrotown Station section in late 2021.
This initiative reflects key priorities outlined in Burnaby’s Community Safety Plan and also the Burnaby Transportation Plan, which emphasize well-lit public spaces and the promotion of active transportation.
