Burnaby’s green guardians: Nominate them for the 2026 Environmental Awards

The City of Burnaby is celebrating our environmental champions! Nominations have opened for the 2026 Environmental Awards to recognize people and groups making outstanding contributions to the sustainability of Burnaby’s environment.
You can nominate for any of these 6 categories:
- Business stewardship: For Burnaby businesses that raise awareness about ecological issues and reduce their environmental impact.
- Communications: For media (print, digital, video, audio) that helps people understand environmental issues or promotes eco-friendly behavior in Burnaby.
- Community stewardship: For people, groups, and organizations in Burnaby who raise awareness and improve the environment.
- Green choices: For Burnaby residents, groups and organizations committed to eco-friendly practices at home and in the community.
- Planning and development: For Burnaby developments using green building technologies and innovative environmental features.
- Youth: For kids and teenagers who raise awareness about environmental issues or improve Burnaby's environment through their projects or school programs.
There are 2 types of awards:
- Environmental Awards recognize large-scale achievements that have a broad community impact.
- Environmental Stars recognize achievements of a smaller or individual scale that may serve to catalyze larger initiatives and inspire others.
You can submit nominations online, or in person at City Hall until March 30, 2026. Recipients of the 2026 awards will be announced during Burnaby’s Environment Week (June 1-7) and be recognized by Burnaby’s mayor and Council at the June 23, 2026 Council meeting.

A quarter of Burnaby’s land base is made up of green space – that’s an area six-times bigger than Stanley Park. From hidden-gem neighbourhood parks to stunning regional destinations like Burnaby Mountain, our community loves to be outdoors. We take our role as stewards seriously – by investing in the protection and enhancement of green spaces across Burnaby. The Environmental Awards are another reason to get out and explore Burnaby’s incredible natural spaces.
