The City of Burnaby has closed MacPherson Outdoor Pool after a recent routine inspection determined the pool is experiencing a significant water leak.
The pool is currently losing approximately 68,000 gallons (257,000 litres) of water each day—roughly the equivalent of refilling the entire pool every five days. The City is assessing the extent of the issue and evaluating potential options and next steps. A reopening timeline has not yet been determined.
"We recognize this closure will be disappointing and inconvenient for many residents, families and user groups," said Mary Morrison-Clark, General Manager of Parks, Recreation and Culture. "However, given the amount of water being lost each day and the need to act responsibly with our water resources, closing the pool while we investigate and assess next steps is the right thing to do."
City staff are working to relocate programming to other facilities wherever possible and expect most scheduled activities can be accommodated elsewhere. Staff are contacting affected users directly with information about program relocations and schedule adjustments.
Outdoor pools at Kensington Park, Burnaby Central Park, and Robert Burnaby Park remain open.
Updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
