About this Program
The City of Burnaby is introducing a temporary pilot program to permit responsible consumption of alcohol by adults in 4 parks across Burnaby, selected for their location, size and availability of amenities like picnic areas, public washrooms and recycling capacity:
- Central Park
- Confederation Park
- Edmonds Park
- Keswick Park
The pilot program will be active from June 23 to October 30, 2023. While in effect, alcohol consumption will be permitted at these parks from dawn to dusk, everywhere except in these areas:
- Within 10 metres of:
- playgrounds
- sport courts and fields
- spray parks and outdoor pools
- skate bowls
- parking lots
- and on any of the following:
- artificial turf surfaces
- trail pathways
- natural parkland
- forested areas
- indoor areas
- any other areas with signage forbidding alcohol consumption posted
This pilot program will help our staff prepare recommendations to City Council on potentially permitting alcohol consumption at more Burnaby parks on a permanent basis. During the pilot program, residents are encouraged to provide feedback on their experiences with the program by taking a short survey.
