Outdoor Courts

Grab your racquet or paddle for a round of tennis or pickleball at our outdoor courts

Our courts are available on a first-come, first-served basis, so there's no booking required for casual games of tennis or pickleball. Thank you in advance for following our posted etiquette rules when you're on the courts.

Court etiquette and rules

• Private lessons are not permitted on City courts.
• City of Burnaby sport lessons and allotments have priority.
• The maximum court time is 30 minutes, if others are waiting to play. No additional time can be added if you substitute players.
• Practice time is included in your 30 minute allotted playing time.
• 2-4 players must be present and wait facing the court to claim it.
• If tennis players are next in line on a shared court, pickleball players must finish up and remove nets within 30 minutes. Tennis players then have 30 minutes to play.
• While tennis play is happening, pickleball players will rotate through the remaining courts using the paddle rack system.
• Avoid interfering with play on the courts that are either side of yours.
• Appropriate conduct and language is expected.
• Please use non-marking shoes and equipment.
• Other sport activities like rollerblading, roller sports, skateboarding, scootering, ball hockey and cycling aren't permitted on the courts.
• Dogs either on-leash or off-leash aren't allowed on the courts at any time.
• If these court rules aren't followed, the courts may be closed.
• Use caution if it's been raining or snowing–the court surface may be slippery when wet or icy.

Pickleball paddle holder queuing system

• Place your paddles in the first available slot from right to left.
• When your game is finished or 30 minutes are up, call out "court open" and leave the court for the next group.
• When it's your turn, take your paddles and move the "next" label one space over. When it reached the end, slide it back to the rightmost space. 
• Do not use spare paddles to hold spots for others who are already playing or not at the courts.
• If it's your turn but your group is not ready to play, move your paddles to the back of the queue to stay in line.

Court hours

• Courts without lights are open 7:30 am until dusk.
• Courts with lights are open 7:30 am-10 pm. Select courts may have lights on until 11 pm.
• Courts are open year-round, weather dependent.
• To find out if your lesson or class has been cancelled due to weather, call the tennis rain-out line at 604-294-4378.
  • Information is updated for same-day programs by 2 pm Monday to Friday and 8 am Saturday and Sunday.

Tennis and pickleball hours

We've set designated times for tennis and pickleball at Bonsor and Keswick Parks. If no player is on the court during the dedicated sport time, either sport may play. However, if players of the dedicated sport arrive, the court must be vacated. 

Bonsor

• Monday, Wednesday and Friday
  • 8 am to noon: Tennis 
  • 5 pm to dusk: Pickleball 
• Tuesday and Thursday
  • 8 am to noon: Pickleball 
  • 5 pm to dusk: Tennis
• Saturday and Sunday
  • first come, first served. 

Keswick

• Monday and Wednesday
  • 8 am to noon: Tennis 
  • 5 pm to dusk: Pickleball 
• Tuesday and Thursday
  • 8 am to noon: Pickleball 
  • 5 pm to dusk: Tennis
• Friday
  • 5 pm to dusk: Pickleball

Pickleball

Pickleball courts are available on a first come, first served basis. There's no fee and no advanced booking required, but please bring your own equipment. You may bring your own portable nets. Burnaby residents are able to access nets stored in lockboxes at select courts.

Lockbox requirements

• Box access is for Burnaby residents only. Register for the net lockbox combination.
• Do not share the lock combination with others.
• Boxes must be kept locked at all times.
• Boxes are for pickleball nets only. Other items are not permitted to be stored. 
• Nets cannot be removed from the court, and must be returned to the box at the end of play.
• The combination will be changed yearly, and may changed more frequently if boxes are used improperly. Visit this page (Burnaby.ca/OutdoorCourts) for a link to receive the latest combination. 
• Confederation Park pickleball nets are available from May 1 to October 30. During the fall and winter, the lockbox will move to the Sohen Gill Sports Box inside the park.

Bookings

The City has specific court locations which may be available for tournament bookings. To request a booking, please complete the following application and submit to [email protected]. 

Liability insurance

Commercial general liability insurance is required to rent any City facility- please check with the facility for specific requirements. You may purchase insurance through an independent broker of your choice, or receive a quote through AON Insurance.
