AccessAbility Week
National AccessAbility Week is celebrated each year starting on the last Sunday in May. It’s a time to celebrate the valuable contributions of people with disabilities, increase awareness and continue to advance accessibility and disability inclusion in communities across Canada.
This year National AccessAbility Week takes place from May 31 to June 6, 2026. Throughout the week, the City of Burnaby will host activities and share resources that celebrate inclusion, offer space for connection, and raise awareness about the importance of accessibility in our community.

Understanding Disability Benefits

Learn about the three federal financial programs for people with disabilities: the Disability Tax Credit (DTC), the Registered Disability Savings Plan (RDSP) and the Canada Disability Benefit (CDB). This session will help you to understand and access the benefits and support you are entitled to.
Walk, Roll and Chat with the Mayor

The group will start at Christine Sinclair Community Centre and follow paved multi-use trails: the Kensington Urban Trail and Central Valley Greenway. Trying sitting volleyball with Paralympian Danielle Ellis from Volleyball BC. Sitting Volleyball is an adaptive sport version of Indoor Volleyball. It is played on a smaller court and a lowered net with athletes sitting directly on the ground. Athletes use their arms and legs to help move them around the court to be able to play the ball using the same skills as Indoor Volleyball. Come out and try this fast, fun and inclusive version of volleyball during National AccessAbility Week!
