Histories of Burnaby’s diverse communities are packed into a 10-acre open-air site. The free festivities include multicultural family entertainment, displays and demonstrations, children's face-painting and activities and, of course cupcakes!
Exhibits are open with staff to interact and learn from.

StreetFest on Central

Civic Square, Central Boulevard and Central Park
Presenting partner:
An evening of family fun! There is fun for everyone including a family zone with kids’ entertainment and activities at Civic Square, activities for all ages along Central Boulevard, along with food, music, dance, artists and free live performances in Central Park. The event starts at 6:30 pm and ends with fireworks finale in Central Park at 10:15 pm. The event will finish at approximately 10:30 pm.
With two nearby SkyTrain stations (Patterson and Metrotown) and bus loop at Metrotown, there are plenty of ways to get to the festival. You are encouraged to take transit, cycle or walk, and please leave your pets at home.

Artist Bios:
LIGHTS is a versatile artist of many forms including
singer songwriter, DJ and multi-instrumentalist.
Her dynamic style of manic pop, weaves in and out of
alternative, indie, electronic, and dance genres,
defying conventions while remaining true to her
artistic vision. With sold-out tours on multiple
continents, and collaborations with renowned artists
like Travis Barker and Steve Aoki, the impact of LIGHTS
continues to grow with streams in the hundreds of millions.
Shawnee Kish, a JUNO Award nominee, empowers
listeners through healing lyrics in her self-titled
2021 EP. As a proud Two-Spirit Mohawk, she advocates for
her Indigenous and LGBTQ2+ communities. Her exceptional
talents have taken her to stages alongside music icons
like Lady Gaga and Madonna, with Billboard naming
Shawnee as an “Artist You Need To Know.”

From 6:30-10 pm, enjoy games, cultural performances, demonstrations, crafts, interactive dance performances, community art, roving entertainers, pop up musicians, photo booths, and onsite activations from Concord Pacific and RBC, along with additional interactive displays from community partners to entertain and engage spectators of all ages.

From 6:30-10 pm, enjoy activities great for the whole family. Featuring rovers, Imagination blocks, four animatronic dinosaurs and lots of fun games for the kids.

Where do I park?
Parking is available in the Metropolis at Metrotown and Metrotown parking lots, located a short distance from Central Boulevard. Alternatively, with Patterson and Metrotown SkyTrain stations nearby, visitors can also take transit, or choose an active transportation option such as walking or cycling if they live nearby.
Can I buy food and/or beverages on site?
Yes! As part of the StreetFest on Central festival, there will be a number of food trucks located near Central Park. Also, let’s support local—we encourage you to try the many restaurants and other businesses in the area providing food and drinks.

Is there a space to lock up my bike?
A bicycle valet service will be on site near the corner of Kingsway and Patterson. Just like a coat-check, they will tag your bike and provide you with a claim stub. Enjoy the event and then bring back the claim stub when you want your bike returned. You can also leave your helmet or panniers on your bike. They accept bikes of all shapes & sizes – even strollers! When do the road closures go into effect?
Road closures are in effect along Patterson Ave, Central Boulevard (between Patterson and Willingdon avenues), as well as a portion of Olive Ave and Wilson Ave closest to Central Boulevard to ensure maximum space for residents and visitors to explore everything at the event. The closures will go into effect at 3:00 pm on July 1, and will continue throughout the entire day. Roads will reopen at 12:01 am on July 2.
Is there any parking restrictions on the roads?
Special event and/or no parking will be in effect along Patterson Ave as well as Central Boulevard (between Patterson and Willingdon avenues), as well as the north side of Beresford Street from Willingdon to Patterson, and parts of Olive and Wilson Avenues that connect to Central Boulevard. These restrictions will be in effect from 12:01 am on July 1 to noon on July 2.
If you live in the area of the parking restrictions, please ensure that your vehicle is moved from the street by 11:59 pm on Friday, June 30, 2023. Any vehicles that are not moved will be towed. If your vehicle is towed, please call 604-526-9677.
We ask that you please modify your parking and travel plans to avoid the road closures and parking restrictions on July 1.
Is there a smoking area on site?
StreetFest on Central is a non-smoking event, and there is no smoking allowed in Burnaby parks. There will be no designated smoking areas within the festival area. Learn more about smoke-free Burnaby.
When will the fireworks display take place?
The fireworks finale is scheduled to begin at 10:15 pm, and should last about 15 minutes.
Where will the main stage performances with LIGHTS and Shawnee Kish be happening at StreetFest on Central?
The main stage will be located in the northeast corner of Central Park, near Patterson SkyTrain Station.
Is StreetFest on Central a kid-friendly event?
Yes! Everyone is welcome to attend, and there will be plenty of activities and treats in Civic Square geared specifically for kids and adults.
Will there be a place to refill my water bottle on site?
Yes, there will be water refill stations on site at the Central Park and Civic Square locations.
Will there be bathrooms on site?
Yes. Portable toilets will be available throughout the event site.
Can I bring my pet/dog?
With so much going on, visitors are encouraged to leave their pets at home, but service animals with proper identification are permitted.
What is the plan if the weather is extremely hot?
The City of Burnaby will provide multiple misting stations on site for people to cool down if hot temperatures are forecasted for July 1. The City will continue to review its Extreme Heat Management Plan should extreme temperatures persist, and alter the event as needed to ensure the health and safety of all visitors.
To ensure the safety of both residents and event participants and to accommodate some of the planned activities, please be advised that traffic will not be permitted on the following streets from 3:00 pm on July 1 to 12:01 am on July 2:
- Patterson Ave: from Kingsway to Mayberry St.
- exception: single lane alternating traffic for local residents of 5790/5822/5852/5932 Patterson Ave.
- Central Blvd: from Patterson Ave. to Willingdon Ave.
- exception: single lane alternating traffic for residents of 4333 Central Blvd., only using the laneway accessible from Kemp St. at Willingdon Ave., access will be restricted
- Central Blvd: from Willingdon Ave. to Mackay Ave. (bus access only from 5 pm-midnight)
- Olive Ave: from 4155 Central Blvd. to Central Blvd.
- Wilson Ave: from 6088 Wilson Ave. to Central Blvd.
- Beresford St: from Wilson Ave. to Patterson Ave.
- Beresford St: from Willingdon Ave. to Wilson Ave., local traffic only
Access to businesses and/or underground parking for residents will be maintained. There will be “local only” traffic access on Patterson Ave., Olive Ave., James St., Barker Ave., Wilson Ave., Kemp St. and Kathleen St. Please plan ahead to avoid closures, crowds and parking restrictions on streets.
Parking on the streets noted above as well as the north side of Beresford St. will be restricted to “No Parking” or “Special Event Parking” between 12:01 am on July 1 to noon on July 2. Accessible parking spots will be available on Wilson Ave.
If you live in the area of the parking restrictions, please ensure that your vehicle is moved from the street by 11:59 pm on Friday, June 30, 2023. Any vehicles that are not moved will be towed. If your vehicle has been towed, please call 604-526-9677.

- Metrotown Loop and SkyTrain station will remain open with statutory holiday service.
- Bus service will access Central Blvd. to Metrotown Loop with statutory holiday service but please expect delays with event pedestrians crossing Willingdon Ave. at Central Blvd. that will be controlled by traffic personnel.
- Patterson SkyTrain Station will remain open with statutory holiday service.
- Bus service 129 at Patterson Station will be re-routed and the stop at Patterson Station will be moved to Metrotown Loop from 12:01 am on July 1 to 12:01 am on July 2.
