Learn about the partnership that's making Burnaby's communities healthier.

The Healthier Community Partnership (HCP) is a partnership between the City, Fraser Health, Burnaby School District 41, the Burnaby Division of Family Practice and the Burnaby Inter-Agency Council intended to positively impact Burnaby residents' physical, mental and social health.

The initiative is rooted in the global movement that recognizes health as a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being, and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity (World Health Organization, 2010).

Many activities/initiatives that contribute to health develop outside the formal health care system. Through their services, community planning and development functions, local governments and community agencies can play an essential role in promoting health across the population.

The initiative aims to:

  • Create and promote a collective vision of health and healthy communities.
  • Mobilize internal and external stakeholders, including NGOs, public, business, partners and leaders and leverage existing partnerships, relationships and resources to play an active role in supporting a healthier community.
