Social Media Public Engagement Code of Conduct

While we encourage open discussion and public engagement that contribute to the conversation, please be aware that we do not support or tolerate comments that threat or offend. The City of Burnaby monitors for inappropriate posts and as such will remove any public content of the following nature:

  • Profane, abusive or discriminatory language
  • Defamatory comments against a person or organization
  • Commercial solicitations or advertisements from third-party organizations
  • Redistribution of copyrighted material
  • Suggestive or supportive of illegal or threatening activity
  • Promotes or opposes candidates for political elections

Collection of Private Information on Social Media

Please be aware that the information you post on social media are not under the City of Burnaby’s control, and may be stored outside Canada on servers not belonging to the City of Burnaby.

Be sure to read the site’s Privacy policy to determine its privacy practices. For public engagement purposes, the City of Burnaby may collect the information you provide via social media. To protect your own privacy, please do not disclose any personal information such as your phone number or email address in publicly viewable comments.
