City seeks input on travel safety in the Capitol Hill/Burnaby Heights neighbourhoods

Last updated: April 11, 2022

The City of Burnaby is conducting a comprehensive study of the Capitol Hill/Burnaby Heights neighbourhoods to assess opportunities to improve safety for pedestrians, cyclists and drivers travelling in the area. This new study will build on earlier studies and previous traffic calming measures and will be informed by updated resident input and technical analysis. The study will focus on the entire area north of Hastings Street between Fell and Willingdon avenues.

In the past, the City studied sections or specific streets in the Capitol Hill/Burnaby Heights neighbourhoods and implemented some traffic calming measures. The City is now taking a holistic approach and thinking more broadly about how it can improve safety and accessibility throughout the entire area.

As part of the first phase of the project, we’re asking for input from local residents. If you live in the area, please help us by completing the online survey and sharing your experiences, concerns and ideas for travel safety improvements. The deadline to participate in the online survey is May 1, 2022.

In addition to identifying traffic calming measures, the study will also aim to improve accessibility and encourage healthier and more sustainable modes of transportation such as walking, rolling and cycling—in alignment with Connecting Burnaby, Burnaby’s Transportation Plan and the City’s Climate Action Framework.
