City to activate Emergency Warming Centre

Last updated: February 14, 2024

The temporary winter shelter operated by Progressive Housing Society, located at 7320 Buller Avenue (entrance via Prenter Street parking lot) is open 24 hours, 7 days a week.

The City's overnight Emergency Warming Centre next door is currently closed and will re-open as required this winter to provide additional capacity.

The City of Burnaby will activate an overnight warming centre at 7320 Buller Avenue on January 11, providing extra capacity for vulnerable people to take shelter from winter weather.

It will operate 8:30 pm to 8 am daily, offering additional capacity above and beyond the temporary winter shelter operated by Progressive Housing Society next door.

Other warming centre services available in Burnaby include:

  • Douglas Shelter—2294 Douglas Road
  • Extreme weather shelters—Southside Community Church, 7135 Walker Avenue (Open the 1st to the 15th of the month), and Westminster Bible Chapel, 7540 6th Street (Open 16th to end of the month).
