Creation of municipal housing authority to advance action on housing in Burnaby

Last updated: July 31, 2023

The City of Burnaby will host a virtual public information session on August 15.

The City of Burnaby is pursuing the creation of a municipal housing authority to help ensure that individuals and families of all income levels have access to stable, secure, and affordable housing.

The Burnaby Housing Authority (BHA) would be an arms-length municipal corporation that will work collaboratively with housing providers and developers to increase housing diversity and affordable housing options. The BHA would help to streamline decision-making, accelerate housing projects, and act as a centralized hub to develop and manage non-market housing for public benefit.

What: The City of Burnaby is hosting a virtual public information session to inform the community about the proposal to create the Burnaby Housing Authority.

Why: Affordability is the most significant housing challenge in Burnaby. We need nimble, bold, and innovative solutions to develop a range of affordable and attainable housing, especially rental units.

Who: All interested residents of Burnaby are invited to attend the information session. The virtual session will be facilitated by City staff as well as community consultants from Urban Matters CCC

When: Tuesday, August 15, 2023 from 6:30 to 8 pm.

Where: Virtual – please email [email protected] to receive the Zoom link.
