City of Burnaby delivers on commitment to improve online activity registration

Last updated: September 20, 2023

Burnaby residents who registered for more than 4,700 activities this fall benefited from a much-improved user experience thanks to the launch of City’s new, online WebReg system.

“It’s great to see that people found registration much more user-friendly this time and I look forward to more initiatives like this that improve our customer service,” said Mayor Mike Hurley. “I know there was a lot of work behind the scenes to ensure a successful transition and that this fall registration went as smoothly as possible.”

The new system makes it easier for Burnaby residents to view, find and register for the wide variety of recreation, arts and culture activities offered by the City—and residents are taking advantage of the new platform.

Nearly 20,000 registrations have been processed through the WebReg platform this fall, with 85% of all bookings completed online. Swim activities continue to be among the most popular activities in Burnaby, with 1,300 registrations alone processed within the first minute of activities being open.

The City is actively exploring opportunities to boost the number of activities available in Burnaby. The City has an extensive recruitment campaign underway aimed at hiring more staff, including swim instructors—who are in high demand in the current labour market.
