City of Burnaby to honour the legacy of Councillor Nick Volkow at Metro Skate Park

Last updated: October 10, 2023

The City of Burnaby will host a celebration to mark the official renaming of Metro Skate Park to the Nick Volkow Skate Park, honouring one of Burnaby’s longest-serving councillors.

“Councillor Nick Volkow was a tireless advocate for our community and especially for young people,” said Mayor Mike Hurley. “By renaming the Metro Skate Park, we’re honouring the incredible legacy that Nick has left, ensuring that future generations appreciate everything he has done for our community.”

Councillor Volkow served on Burnaby City Council for 24 years. He passed away in June 2020 after a two-year battle with brain cancer.

The official dedication ceremony will take place at the Metro Skate Park near the Bonsor Recreation Complex at 11 am on October 14 and will be followed by a special skate board demonstration.
