Vancouver Symphony Orchestra and Vancouver Opera captivate 23,000 fans

Last updated: July 15, 2025

Over 23,000 people gathered at Deer Lake Park on July 12 and 13 to enjoy the outdoor performances by the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra (VSO) and Vancouver Opera (VO). The events showcased a blend of classical and modern music, complemented by captivating theatrical elements.

“Classical Weekend is a beloved tradition in Burnaby — and an amazing showcase of Deer Lake Park, one of the best outdoor concert venues in the province,” said Mayor Mike Hurley. “We’re extremely proud to host this event year after year and give families the opportunity to experience world class performances by the VSO and Vancouver Opera.”

On July 12, the City hosted the 36th Symphony in the Park featuring the VSO. Under the baton of conductor Andrew Crust, the VSO transported listeners to a world of wonders: a trip across the Star Wars galaxy, an adventure through Jurassic terrain and a journey with Howl’s Moving Castle

The following evening, Vancouver Opera took the stage for the fourth annual Opera in the Park. The evening included performances from the opera’s upcoming 2025-2026 season, such as Puccini's La Bohème and Verdi's Die Fledermaus.

The City of Burnaby, VSO and VO are thankful to the 23,000 fans who attended the shows, as well as the volunteers who helped make the events possible. We look forward to continuing these partnerships in 2026.
