Last updated: September 2, 2025

Burnaby’s first Car Free Day at Edmonds was a resounding success, drawing 25,000 residents and visitors to a vibrant afternoon of community connection, entertainment and food.

Hosted in partnership with TransLink, the event transformed Edmonds Street into a lively pedestrian zone, showcasing the City’s commitment to greener transportation and stronger community ties.

Festival-goers enjoyed:

  • Live diverse entertainment across 3 stages
  • Interactive games and activities for all ages
  • Delicious local food and beverages
  • Over 50 community booths, local businesses and artisan vendors
  • And much more!

Special features included roving performances, a bike valet, and a free shuttle service to ensure accessibility for everyone.

Mayor Mike Hurley added, “Car Free Day was a wonderful opportunity for our community to come together, celebrate our shared values, and explore sustainable ways of getting around. It was a day filled with fun, connection and a commitment to a greener future.”
The event marked a joyful close to summer, with residents embracing the chance to “Be Together” and experience Burnaby in a new way—without cars.

The City of Burnaby extends its gratitude to all performers, vendors, volunteers, and attendees who made the event a success—and thank you to our presenting partner TransLink for their generous support.
