City of Burnaby adopts Burnaby 2050 Official Community Plan

Last updated: December 11, 2025

The City of Burnaby reached a significant milestone on December 9 with Council’s final reading and adoption of the Burnaby 2050 Official Community Plan (OCP).

Developed over four phases starting in 2022, the OCP was shaped by thousands of community members. Residents, businesses, youth and organizations participated in 61 events, workshops and meetings, contributing 3,656 survey responses and more than 23,090 comments. This extensive engagement ensured the new plan truly reflects the community’s aspirations and values.

"Burnaby 2050 is more than a plan—it’s a shared vision for our city’s future," said Mayor Mike Hurley. "I want to thank everyone who participated in this process. Your voices have shaped a roadmap that will help Burnaby grow sustainably, inclusively and vibrantly for generations to come."

The new OCP will replace Burnaby's Official Community Plan Bylaw 1998 and will guide and manage growth over the next 25 years, addressing emerging trends and challenges such as housing affordability, climate change and adaptation. The plan sets out priorities, goals and policies for the City’s short and long-term development.
