The City of Burnaby and CUPE Local 23 have agreed to terms on a new three-year agreement, ensuring that Burnaby residents can continue to rely on high-quality services in our community.
“Our staff keep our city running–maintaining parks and roads, supporting libraries and delivering the everyday services residents rely on,” said Mayor Mike Hurley. “This agreement recognizes their dedication and expertise while finding the right balance so we can continue delivering high-quality services in a fiscally responsible way.”
"I'm pleased to see that our membership has ratified this new agreement with the City of Burnaby, as this is a fair contract for both parties and it is a result of many months of negotiations,” said CUPE Local 23 President Chris Mikowski.
The term of the new Collective Agreement will be three years, retroactive from January 1, 2025 to December 31, 2027 with the following wage adjustments:
- January 1, 2025: 3.5%
- January 1, 2026: 3.5%
- January 1, 2027: 3.0%
The agreement also includes a twenty-five cent ($0.25) increase to the hourly rate on April 6, 2027, an adjustment designed to provide greater impact for employees earning lower wages.
The agreement also includes modernized seniority provisions, scheduling updates for greater flexibility and improved efficiency, and minor adjustments to extended health benefits.
CUPE Local 23 represents the majority of the City of Burnaby’s unionized workforce, and includes forepersons, inside and outside workers, as well as Burnaby Public Library staff.
