On Wednesday, June 17, the City will also release Together on these Lands, a short film about the history of the lands on which Burnaby is located as told by knowledge holders from the four Host Nations including xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh), and kʷikʷəƛ̓əm (Kwikwetlem), and produced by Indigenous filmmaker Kamala Todd and her team.
"We’ve made incredible progress over the last few years, building positive, productive and meaningful relationships with the Host Nations on whose territory Burnaby is located," said Mayor Mike Hurley. "National Indigenous Peoples Day is an opportunity to celebrate that progress, and the unique heritage and diverse cultures of First Nations, Inuit and Métis people across the country."
