The City of Burnaby is exploring the development of its first bike learning zone—a safe, car free space where children and families can practice cycling skills and learn the rules of the road in a fun, supportive environment. The facility may include features that mimic real world streets, such as stop signs, traffic lights and roundabouts, helping young riders build confidence before navigating urban areas.
The project is envisioned as a hybrid model: a year-round, open-access space for casual use, with the flexibility to host pop up educational sessions and partner-delivered programming.
Partnerships with community organizations (e.g. nonprofits, cycling educators, youth groups) will be explored as the project advances, ensuring programming reflects community needs while keeping the space open and accessible year-round.
