Project updates
Spring 2026: We are continuing work on the facility’s structural frame, which includes concrete, structural steel and mass timber.
Mass timber
Once complete, the mass timber structure will mark a significant milestone for the project. Mass timber is a lower carbon alternative to steel, supporting Burnaby’s climate goals while providing strength and durability. Selected for its reduced environmental impact and strong structural performance, mass timber demonstrates how sustainable materials can also deliver efficient, high-quality construction.
Tree replacement
Burnaby values our trees. As part of this project, we will be planting 779 new trees to replace the 166 trees that were removed during construction. We strive to plant replacement trees on public property as close to the original location as possible, in keeping with City’s Tree Bylaw and Tree Management Policy for Public Lands.
