Arts Alive: Out of This World

May 5-June 4, 2023 (Lower Gallery)

Opening reception: Thursday, May 4, 7-9 pm

Are you a fan of science fiction and keen to create a new world? Or are you a scientist inspired to know more about what lies beyond? This year, Burnaby students in Grades K-7 were inspired to search for what excites and surprises them—be it from this world or another—using inward and outward exploration. In its 41st year of partnership with School District 41, Arts Alive celebrates expansive student interpretations and artistic achievements.

Artist Apprenticeship: Magnitude of Enclosures

May 5-June 4, 2023 (Upper Gallery)

Opening reception: Thursday, May 4, 7-9 pm

In its 15th year, the Artist Apprenticeship continues to inspire, encourage, and prepare senior secondary students for a career in the arts. This year, students looked inward at the private spaces that are just for them and their thoughts: their homes, notions of self, the directions we may be going, or a sense of being in the world. The Magnitude of Enclosures can really be anywhere.

The Burnaby Art Gallery would like to acknowledge the time and dedication of all participating students, teachers, and career counsellors. These exhibitions are made possible through the generous support of the City of Burnaby, BC Arts Council and the Burnaby School District.
