Arts Alive, Tapestry of Tales
This year marks the 40th Anniversary of Arts Alive, an annual showcase of student works held in partnership with the Burnaby School District. For the momentous occasion, senior secondary students were asked to contemplate and respond to the theme Tapestry of Tales. Our lower gallery features student portrayals of collective memories, which retain their individual self-expression. The exhibition enlists a variety of material choices such as paper, clay, wire, and acrylic, giving insight into the students’ creative processes.
Thresholds
Thresholds presents the work of seven Burnaby Senior Secondary students in the Artist Apprenticeship Program. This program mentors students interested in pursuing careers in fine arts and invites them to develop and curate an exhibition of their own works. For each of the students, this is the first time presenting their artwork in a gallery setting.
Representing Moscrop, Burnaby Mountain, Burnaby North and Burnaby South secondary schools, the students took part in the program during the winter and spring of 2022. Guided by professional artists, curators, and programmers, they created artwork and developed their own exhibition responding to works from the City of Burnaby Permanent Art Collection.
