Citing such diverse influences as Leonard Bernstein, philosophy, Joni Mitchell, Buddhism and Bach, Sarah Slean’s music borrows aspects of cabaret, pop, and orchestral, all knit together by the startling poetry of her lyrics, unique arranging and piano-playing, and that voice, described by the CBC as “a 19th century Kate Bush”.
Slean is a Canadian singer-songwriter, composer and musician with 25 years of broad experience in music. She’s released eleven recordings in over 10 countries world-wide in addition to headlining theatres across Canada and touring Europe, the US and Scandinavia. She’s opened internationally for such artists as Chris Isaak, Alanis Morissette, Rufus Wainwright and many others. This modern-day Renaissance woman is also a published poet, a much-exhibited visual artist, and an actress. She is a 4-time JUNO and 2-time GEMINI nominated performer and a Canadian Screen Award-winning composer.
This remarkable Canadian artist, described by Time Magazine Canada “One of the most compelling acts Canada has to offer” performs in the Shadbolt’s Studio Theatre as a 4-piece ensemble.
