Single Family Garbage Guidelines

New! Every Other Week Garbage Collection

Starting April 2017, the City will be moving to Every Other Week Garbage Collection for residential properties that receive City curbside garbage collection. Learn more.

The City of Burnaby provides biweekly collection of garbage from single and two-family homes. Garbage is collected using an automated collection system that utilizes specially designated wheeled containers.

Collection Reminders:

  • Only one (1) wheeled garbage container is allowed per property for collection each week.
  • Garbage is collected biweekly (every other week), while recycling and green bins are collected weekly.
  • Between collection days, remove garbage container from lane or street and store in a secure location.
  • All garbage must be bagged and fit into the garbage container with the lid closed.
  • Must leave at least 1 metre (3 feet) between Garbage Container, Green Bin and Recycling. Learn more »

Banned materials can be recycled or disposed of properly through the City's curbside or multi-family recycling program, at the City's Eco-Centre, a Regional Disposal Facility or through a Provincial Take-Back Program.
