Changes to improve animal control service delivery in Burnaby

Starting February 1, 2024, the City of Burnaby will provide animal control services related to bylaws. This change will improve service levels and enable the City to better focus enforcement efforts in parks and other public spaces. The change also allows the Burnaby SPCA to better focus on animal welfare issues.

The City of Burnaby will look after the following animal control services:

  • minor animal welfare concerns, barking dogs, dog bite and attacks
  • assistance with stray animals
  • removing dead animals from streets or public areas

Burnaby SPCA will continue to provide the following services:

  • care for stray or unhoused animals
  • accepting surrendered animals
  • adoptions
  • lost pets
  • concerns about abuse or cruelty to animals
