Proposed Zoning Bylaw Amendments - R1 SSMUH District
Mayor Hurley – Motion: R1 SSMUH District
City Council directed staff to bring forward a series of amendments to the R1 Zoning Bylaw to reduce the height and size of provincially mandated small-scale multi-unit housing (SSMUH) projects, aiming to protect neighbourhood character and livability. The City of Burnaby updated its zoning bylaw in 2024 to comply with provincial legislation requiring municipalities to allow up to 4 units on most lots zoned for single- and two-family housing.
