As envisioned in Connecting Burnaby, Burnaby’s Transportation Plan, the City of Burnaby is improving the current cycling network in the Edmonds Town Centre area.

The City of Burnaby is celebrating National Volunteer Week (April 16-22) by thanking all Burnaby volunteers for their commitment, dedication, generosity and selflessness to help create a better Burnaby.

The City is moving to a new, user-friendly online registration system in time for the busy fall recreation and culture activity registration season. As an email address will be essential to access the new registration system online, the City is requesting current users to add their email to their existing account in the current WebReg system right away

Once again, Burnaby is participating in the Lower Mainland’s annual WALK30 Challenge, an annual competition between local municipalities where residents challenge themselves to walk for 30+ minutes a day, and log their time towards their city’s total.

Professional artists have the opportunity to create in the tranquil and inspiring natural setting of Deer Lake Park in beautifully restored heritage homes and/or Shadbolt Centre for the Arts and Burnaby Art Gallery as part of the City of Burnaby’s Deer Lake Artist Residencies.

By a unanimous vote at the March 20, 2023 Special Meeting, City Council has cancelled the Alternative Approval Process to consider removal of the park dedication for a portion of parkland at 4800 Riverbend Drive which was intended for construction of a Green Recycling and Organics (GRO) facility.

Mayor Mike Hurley called a special meeting of City Council to be held on Monday, March 20, 2023, at 12 pm (noon) with the subject “Reconsideration of the Alternative Approval Process.”

The City is taking action to improve processing times for development and building permits and create a faster, simpler and better experience for applicants through the Development Approval Process (DAP) Project.

Through an Alternative Approval Process, City Council is asking whether electors oppose the adoption of Burnaby Park Dedication Removal Bylaw 2023 to remove the park dedication for a portion of undeveloped park land at 4800 Riverbend Drive proposed to be used for the proposed GRO facility.

Burnaby City Council has approved a process to review, acknowledge and apologize for historic discrimination by Burnaby’s municipal government against people of Chinese descent, with the goal of advancing reconciliation with the Chinese Canadian community.
