Last updated: July 8, 2025

One-third of trips in Burnaby are made through biking, walking and transit, according to the latest Burnaby Household Travel Survey, which shows people turning to greener modes of travel.

The City of Burnaby’s new dashboard offers a closer look at how people move around the city, why they travel and how travel patterns vary across neighbourhoods. This information helps the City plan for a more connected, inclusive and climate-friendly future.

Key highlights:

  • Burnaby residents make over half a million trips every day.
  • Over one-third of trips are made by walking, cycling or transit.
  • About one in seven vehicles are electric or hybrid.
  • Metrotown leads the way, with nearly half of all trips made without driving.

The dashboard is built on data from the 2024 Burnaby Household Travel Survey, which gathered input from nearly 2,500 households. This tool is a key step in delivering the Burnaby Transportation Plan, supporting informed decisions and tracking progress toward our transportation goals. By making travel data accessible and easy to explore, it helps planners, decision-makers and the community to better understand how Burnaby moves and how we can shape the future of our city.
