Financial accountability is achieved through reporting, monitoring, controlling and auditing programs managed by the Finance Department.
The Annual Financial Plan, and the Annual Financial Report highlight the activities of the City each year in a number of areas and provide key financial information. These annual reports serve as an opportunity to communicate with citizens, business leaders, and other interested parties regarding the City’s financial performance, priorities and direction for the future.

2017 – 2021
2017 – 2021 Financial Plan
The 2017 – 2021 Financial Plan provides detailed funding requirements over the next five years. The Financial Plan is used by Council and City staff to authorize and align spending with identified Council and community priorities that delivers valued services and programs.
The 2017 – 2021 Financial Plan includes a message from Mayor Corrigan highlighting the City's overall direction for 2017. The Plan serves as a communication device that gives all readers a comprehensive look at the services by the City and the costs related to those services.
2016 Annual Municipal Report
The 2016 Annual Municipal Report provides readers with the financial results for the 2016 fiscal year. The consolidated financial statements have been prepared in accordance with Canadian public sector accounting standards established as prescribed by the Public Sector Accounting Board and the requirements of the Province of BC, Ministry of Community, Sport and Cultural Development. Burnaby City Council appointed KPMG LLP as the City’s external auditors; their audit opinion is expressed in the Auditor’s Report which forms part of this Annual Financial Report.
2015 Statement of Financial Information
The Statement of Financial Information is a Public Accounts report prepared in compliance with the Financial Information Act, Statutes of British Columbia (Canada), Chapter 140. It contains a statement of assets and liabilities, operational statement, schedule of debts, schedule of guarantee and indemnity agreements, schedule showing remuneration and expenses paid to or on behalf of employees and schedule showing payments for suppliers of goods or services.
